Well the season has kicked off with the first round of games already played. The committee has held a meeting last week and planned some events for the year. And with all teams in Wangaratta this week there is plenty to do this week and every other week. The committee can only do so much. It is up to each and every club member to pull their weight, do their bit and support the club.
So for the benefit of our new team members and to refresh the memory of all existing members i will run through the list of tasks that require help from everyone.
1. Working Bees: Generally held monthly or as required to maintain grounds and clubrooms.
NEXT WORKING BEE: This Sat 8th Apr. 9am start. Council has mowed grounds, however edges need to be trimmed and surrounds need mowing. Home plate on Diamond 2 needs a tidy up and topping with gravel. Both Diamonds 1 & 2 need to be marked ready for games Sunday. Windows in clubrooms need a good clean. So bring whipper snippers, rakes, shovels, mowers and a trailer or Ute to move gravel would be good. See you there.
2. Canteen Duties: We run a canteen on every home game in Wangaratta. We need people to serve during the day. If everyone does their share you only need be in there for half an hour or so.
Team playing second come early and serve in the canteen before your game and team playing early cover during the late game. Need people with an RSA to serve alcohol, particularly after the last game.
3. Umpires: Our club MUST provide a line umpire for each of our away games. No qualification is required to do this, so anyone with a basic understanding of the rules can do it. We MUST provide a Plate umpire at our Home games. This requires a minimum of Level 0 accreditation. Once again this year the club will be paying our umpires for each game they do. The payment of umpires is funded by all players and this year will be built in to your club fee structure.
NOTE: Jenko will be posting an update of this year's fee structure soon.
So if you are struggling to make your payments or just want to have a go at umpiring then the incentive is there. NEBA are planning another Level 0 course again this year. Will update when we have more details.
3. Training sessions: The equipment required to do the drills each week is pretty much defined. If you want your training session to flow quickly and smoothly, then take the initiative and hustle to get the required gear for the next drill that you know is coming up. Don’t just sit back and wait for the regular few to get the gear for you.
That pretty much covers what is required as input from all team members. So be proactive, pull your weight and enjoy being part of the best baseball club in the North East.
PLAYING GEAR AND MERCHANDISE:
PLAYERS TOPS: Players requiring tops should have already placed their order with the coaches or committee.
Tops will be ordered very shortly and should arrive soon.
TRAINING TOPS: New training tops with a brand new design are at the final planning stages. We just need to finalise some of our sponsor’s logos before going in to production. Keep an eye out for these in the near future.
STUBBIE HOLDERS: There is still plenty of stock available with a couple of different designs. Only $10 at the Canteen.
NEW NEW NEW: RANGERS Drawstring Backpacks. These are a brand new item this year and are set to sell like hotcakes.
A black cotton drawstring backpack with the Rangers Logo printed on them. Ideal for players, for cleats, gloves or other gear. Perfect for the kids to bring along snacks, toys or other stuff on game day or simply to use around home or when traveling.
COST is an unbelievable $5 each at the canteen.
Available this week.
Ausport Van: Will be here this Sunday 9th April. So if you’re looking to buy a new bat, some cleats, pants or any other gear then bring along your cash or card and grab what you need.
Family Day: Our annual family day has been set for Round 7. Sunday 28th May. This is our Black V Orange game held at Home.
Once again family day is the club's way of giving back to our supporters, players and their families.
During the game there will be wine, drinks and nibbles for the ladies. Party food and other stuff for the kids. All topped with dinner after the days events. More detail as the day gets closer.
Mark it in your diary to keep this day free.
Silver Circle\Lucky Draw: Has been set for Sat 22nd July.
This is the day before our Round 13 clash against Wodonga at Home. Tickets will go on sale in the near future with more detail to come.
Once again this year we are grateful for the return of our sponsors and also gaining a few more new ones.
The donations they give help cover our uniform\equipment costs and fund out T-Ball program. This year, funds are being set aside for new players packs, that will include backpack, shirt, cap, glove and ball.
Also funds will be made available for new T-Ball helmets and other equipment.
A full list of sponsors will be posted very soon.
In return we simply ask that all members support our sponsors where you can. To name a couple:
For your Meat supplies you can’t go past Londrigan Plaza Meats.
Go in and see John and the boys for all your needs. If you don't already have a discount card, see one of the committee to get one.
You purchase your meat at regular price, but 10% of the cost is given back to the club at the end of season.
Once again CAFE MARTINI has stayed with us as our major sponsor.
We show our support for them by heading back there after every Home game. Have a few beers and enjoy a nice meal. They have club specials on a select few of their menu items. So keep home game evenings free for a few drink and a nice meal at Cafe Martinis.
T-Ball and Under 12 Championship Training:
Under 12 training starts this Saturday 8th April from 3pm till 4.30pm at the grounds. Run by Kevin and some of the other players the aim is to get enough players to put in a representative side for the North East at the State Championships at Bendigo in late June.
Kevin is looking at players in the 8-11 years age brackets.
A perfect opportunity for your youngster to get in to baseball and develop some skills and interest at an early age.
NEBA T-Ball Games: As an aside to the U12 training, NEBA are introducing T-Ball games to be held during the break between senior games on a Sunday.
Due to start in Round 4, Sunday 7th May.
The aim is to pool all available players to form sides to hold a proper T-Ball Game. This is aimed at the 8 - 12 years bracket.
I will post more detail separately in the coming week.
A long post with a lot of detail to digest, but thanks for your attention.
